THE SYDNEY SHEEP SALES.
Rccc'iecd, July 9, 7.30 p.m. Sydney, July 9. Tho sale of iong-woolled sheep, began to-day, the catalogue consisting chiefly of New Zealaud consignments. When the first lots, from Tasmania and New South Wales, wore put up, it was evident that there was going to be a difficulty in realising dccont prices. Sixteen pure Leicester fetched a quarter of a guinea, then half a guinea was about the best offer, with one or two exceptions, till the Now Zealand animals were reached. Eifleon Border Leicester."? on account of Grieve, Southland, brought- thrce-quartors of a guinea each, and 10 ram hoggets half a guinea. Andrew Bros' lot was passed in. Grey, Otago, got half a guinea for 20 Border Leicester. Lang's (Oaniaru) Romney rams Rcid's (Elderslie) Lincolns wero passed in, Eeid sold five stud Romney rams for 10s Cd each, 60 flock Lincolns at three-quarters of a guinea, and 185 at 10s 6d, The
same owners' Eoinneys were passed in. Tanner obtained a guinea to three and (hree-quarler guineas for three stud Lincoln rams, and a guinea each for three selected Lincoln rams.
Some animation was displayed when three stud Lincolns and one Leicester, on account of the Hon. Matthew Holmes, were offered, They averaged £lB 7s Cd, while 30 Leicester Hock rams brought one guinea each. Thirty selected Lincoln rams, on accounts of the Hon, J, Ormond, Napier, ranged from ono to two guineas. Mungavin's (Porirua) llomneys passed without enquiry, and the lots of Mackenzio (Hawke's Bay) Thrclkold (Flaxtou) Bowler Bros, and Chambers were similarly treated.
Twenty-five Border Leicester hoggets on account af McOrostie, South[land, brought 10s Cd. One stud Lincoln of Sutton's, Inrercargill, brought 26 Etuineas, live others ranging from If to 3} guineas; 10 Lincoln hoggets, two guineas; 'l(s selected Lincoln ranis, H guineas; 10 ewes, same owner, two guineas.
The sales will be continnecl to-morrow, and devoted entirely to New Zealand,
