GREYTOWN NEWS.
From our own Correspondent,
> Tuesday. The first of % series of Sixpenny Concerts,in aid of St. Luke's Church took place last night in the Foresters' Hall. The Band played several selections outside the hall prior to the commencment, The attendance was good, and every item was rendered in first-class style. MrH. Humphries is to be complimented on the way in which he has finished off both Messrs F. 11. Wood's auction rooms, and J, R. Hebley's shop and dwelling. The exterior and interior of both buildings are finished off splendidly. The latter is a ten-roomed building with a fine verandah over tho footpath. Mr F. H. Wood received many complimentary congratulations, last Saturday upon the line new Auction Booms just erected, and they are, without doubt, tho best in the Yalley, I understand, that the late sexton of the Greytown Cemetery, resigned his position on the grounds of the Trust cutting down tho price to bo charged for digging graves. Mr Thompson has held tho position' of sexton, for years, aud no one has filled the position so well, and tho Cemetery was never in a cleaner condition, than it is ut (lie present i Stime, and solely through his management, and it is a pity he has resigned. It is to be hoped the matter of his resignation will be re-considercd, There has been, during the past week, quite a scarcity of fresh butter in this town, none being obtainable at tho local stores. Grass feed is not very plentiful down this way. It is hoped spring will make up for the deficiency. Another Ball this month—the Sand Ball—which is already beiug talked of as tho "Ballofthoseason." A mild form of influenza has been " going the rounds" here, There are still a good number of swaggers about this district.
