MASTERTON HOSPITAL BALL.

A BJCt SUCCESS.

The third Annual Hall, lield in aid of the Masterton Hospital funds, took place in the Drill Hall, last evening, and was-from every point of view—a most successful affair. This gathering has now become a really popular fixture, and while such enthusiastic interest continues

to be taken in the event, it is not

likely to be readily abandoned. from Hie Lower Valley and Bush, were present in considerable numbers, and although the Hall was arranged so as to give the largest possible dancing space, it was none too large for the gathering. The decorations, carried out by the Committee and Mr T. Jago, under the direction of Mr W. Sellar (whose services on such occasions aro always requisitioned, and who—often at considerable personal inconvenience—is always most ready to assist) were tasteful and °ffcctive ; parti-coloured Hugs being hung round the walls and overhead ; tree ferns and evergreens graced the walls; bowers of greenery were erected in the corners; while numerous mirrors and picturesplaced with nico judgment gave a finishing touch to tlio whole. The lloor was polished to perfection and with such music as that played by Mr A. von Keisenbcrg's full Masterton Orchestra, dancing was indeed a pleasure. The stage was crowded with onlookers, who appeared to thoroughly enjoy watching the gay throng whirling Jjfjeneath the lights, the many bright"colored and beautiful dresses adding to the brightness of the scene. The programme was lengthy and particularly well-chosen, including some of tlie newest dance music, Extras were yery kindly played by tlio Misses Walker and Cameron, and Mr Wyvern Williams. The supper was a most liberal one, and gave ample evidence of the generosity of the ladies of Masterton, wfco contributed the piles of good things so admirably displayed on tlio tables, which were under the direct management of Mesdames J. C. Boddington, Britain, Hosking, Marley, Yates and Taylor, and the Misses Jleredith (2), and Vallance (2), with numerous assistants. The tables could not have been more tastefully or temptingly laid, and it almost seemed a pity to spoil the picture by touching anything. Any scruples on this score wero, however, overcome. The Ball this year was arranged and carried out by the following committee Mesdames H. Jt. Bcetham, BodaMington, lionc, Brittain, Cameron, JROpaki), Cargill, Casclbcrg.
