MASTERTON WESLEYAN SCHOOL.
SIXPENNY CONCERT.
_ The fourth of the present series of sixpenny concerts was held in the Masterton Wesleyan Schoolroom last evening, mid despite the unpropitious weather, a fair audience turned up. Those who did venture out were rewarded by hearing an excellent programme,' and the performers deserve great credit for fulfilling their engagements. Miss Elkins opened with the paino .solo " Alice," which she played perfectly. Next came the recitation by Miss Nellie Hogg, "Catching Prawns," which was very well said. Mr Ralph was next and sang " Maid of Anthens," with violin obligalobv Mr Candy, and received au enthusiastic encore, singing " Rocked in tho Cradle of the Deep" very nicely. Miss Deunan sang very sweotiy " The Meeting of tho Waters," she was a little nervous at first, but gradually gained confidence and finished very well. Miss Rooks' violin solo "Heavenward," was nicely played. Tin's is her first appearance and she gave a very creditable performance. Miss Johnstou sang the favourite Scotch song, "Jessie's Dream," very tastefully, and received a well deserved encore. The humorous recitation by Mr Horace Chisliolm was really funny, and caused great merriment. Mr Bennington sang" The Arab's Farewell to hia Favorite Steed." He i seemed a little nervous, and consequently did not quite do himself justice. Mr It. G, Langton'e aong, " The Ship I Love," was excellently rendered. Mr Langton is rapidly coming to tlio front as a vocalist, and is always worth listening to. Miss Hogg's piano solo was very nicely rendered. Miss Corbott was in good voice, and sang " After Sundown," vory sweetly, audreceived an encore. The violin solo by Mastor A. Elkins, " Les Cloches de Comeville," was splendidly rendered, and much appreciated, boing perfectly played. Mr Meadows, as usual, scored with "The Bedouin's Love Song." During the evening, the Masterton Orchestra gavo two splendid selections. The accompaniments were played by Miss Williams, and Messrs Kersley and Koisenberg, the piano being supplied by tho Dresden Company's agont, Mr J. E, Hood, of Queen Street,
