DEFEAT OF .THE ROSEBERY GOVERNMENT.
TEE ARMY ESTIMATES,
Received June 23, 7 p.m. London, June 22.
The Government has been defeated on the Army Estimules by a majority of seven votes on an amendment proposed by Mr Brodrick, member for the Guilford Division of Surrey, protesting against the inadequacy of the reserves of ammunition, especially cordite. Receked, Juni 24,0.19 a.m. London, June 13. This morning Cabinet sat for fire hours.
Absolutely conflicting statements are curre.it respecting the position of affairs.
One is to the eftV.t that Mr Camp-bell-Bamierman hns withdrawn his resignation, on the understanding that a motion will be submittad in the House on Monday. Another is that he will adhere to his first intention to resign, and that the Government will therefore resign.
Lord'Bosebery is now at Windsor, but this visit was arranged before the crisis,
Seven Ministers were absent from the division, It is reported that the Cabinet has decided to dissolve Parliament, as a majority of their supporters favour an immediate appeal ts tho country. The Queen gave audience to Lord Rosebery at Windsor, and ho stayed ever to-day. The Liberal Party have issued an urgent whip for Monday in view of tho likelihood of a Government statemont. The Conservatives are enthusiastic at tho turn of affairs. The Nationalists are opposing a dissolution. The Gbouiek says that Mr Camp. bell-Bannorman privately consulted Mr Balfour prior to the moeting of the House, and that it was'understood that the latter promised his support, but afterwards betrayed him. The Okerm declares that tho Government has decided to resign.
