A number of Chinese having applied to the City Council licenses to act as carriers, the Un* waits on the Council to-night, to protest against this on tho ground that the competition is unfair. The Cab Drivers' Union is to petition tho Council not to issue any more licenses to act as cab-drivers, until such time as business in this line, in this city, has improved. A number of vehicles are being ! imported from Australia, and the •> Union contends that trade is already so bad,that the Council should refuse to issue any more licenses at the present time.
