THEATRE ROYAL.

POPULAR CONCERT,

A fair audience assembled at the Masterton Theatre Royal last evening, in spite of tho bad weather, W attend tho popular concert arranged under the direction of Mr J. Kearsloy, An excellent piogrammo was provided, including some of Masterton's best amateur talent. The programme opened with theoverture "Osmunda" by Mr Kearsley's orchestra, after which Mr W, Simms sang" Queen of My Hoaii" Ho was in excellent voico and was heard to advantage in this favourite song, and also in " The Moss Trooper" in the second half. Miss C. Corbett sang " Mother is My Sweetheart" very nicely, and -was obliged to respond to an ouooro. Mr T. Gray's trombone solo, "Death of Nelson," whioh followed, boing also re,demanded, Mr Meadows, who has now become a favourite vocalist beie, rendered" Bells of Suville" in fine style, Miss Kearsley confoi buted the songs " Gondola Dswis" and " I was Dreaming " in a pleasing manner, also taking part with Miss C, Corbett in the duet "Si la Stanchezza," Mr Lilly, I who is an old favorite, contributed "The Toilers," and "Marching," in his best stylo, Mr B. Ginders gave a violin solo, "Le Cloches de Cornoville," in a finished manner, his effort calliug forth prolonged applause, Mr C. Ginders was also exceptionally well received, bowing his acknowledgments to a recall after his song, " The Mighty Deep," and in the second part contributing "Anchored," The comic dement iwas supplied by Mr A.H, UgH, who sang" Yuss," and « % dunno where 'e are," in character, with capital effect, Mr J, Arthur, Masterton's concertina player, gavoanexhij bitipn of what can bo done with this instrument, in tho solo "Airs Varies." Misa Kearsley played most of the accompaniments, her playing being very favorably commented on as was also a piano duot by this lady land her brother. • ■■"'■■'' ■ *
