Received June U, 10.35 a.m. Sydney, June 14, In tho Legislative Assembly Mr Say moved the adjournment of the Houso in order to condemn the action of the Government in allowing the Crown Solicitor to defend MajorGeneral Hutton, Commandant of Forces, in the libel action brought against him by Captain Close. The Goyornment he said were not justified in allowing the Crown Solicitor to defend persons in civil actions. The Premier said that the writ was accopted on tho distinct understanding that it referred to tho official action of Major-General Hutton, otherwise in no case would the solicitor be allowed to defend him, The Customs Duties Bill has been read a second time, by 64 to 33, and good progress is being made in Committee.

On tho motion of the Premier a new clause was added giving the Government power to remit dutios on articles used in manufacturing processes,'provided that tho manufactured article was not subject to , duty. In tho Legislative Council, the Attorney-Goneral made a hot attack on the action of somo members in respect to the Laud and Income Tax, which he characterised as discourteous. A warm debate resulted, Eventually it was resolved that tho second reading of the Bill bo taken on Wednesday.
