Suicide at Dunedin.
By TekympL—Pms Amekl'm. Dbxkmx, Thursday, A man named James Brown committed suicide by hanging himself in a house in Arthur Street. Deceased, who was 56 years of age, was a labourer, but had been out of work for some years. He was a married man with a grown-up family.
Messrs Lowes & lorns announce their ncit Masterton stock sale, for Wednesday .June 12th at 1 o'clock. There was a startling increase of insanity in New South Wales lately. The report of the Inspector-General states that the number of insane persons on the official registers on 31st December last was 358?, of whom 2198 were males and 138!) females. The number of insane persons at the close of 18!>3 was 3125, so that the increase during 18M amounted to 102, of whom 106 wcro males and 50 females. The increase in number was very much aboye tlio average for the last 20 years, which had been about 100 annually. The increase iu 1892 was 178; in 18'J3,113; and in 1891, 102; so that these three years had added 453 insane persons to the number of those under treatment,
