TENUI NOTES.

From Our Correspondent, The Queen's Birthday, at 'wii, passed off very quietly, no amusement of any kind boing got up. What is the matter with our footballers ? Surely they might have playod a friendly game, if they could not have arranged a match with a foreign team. I must not forget to mention that the East Coast Bachelors' Ball on tho 24th, was a great success, trippers of the "light fantastic," coming from a great distance, and everything in connection with it, passing off splendidly, Tho Taueru Band supplied the music, which was highly appreciated, the extras being kindly played by the Misses Nicholls and O'Connor, and Messrs Bianchi and O'Connor. Dancing was kept up till after five, Mr Johnston sang, " Wrap me up in my old 6tablo jacket," in really good style, for which he received a hearty encore, y The mail coach, on its wiu' to Castlopointlast Friday, got, stR in the aand at the mouth oftho Whakalaki Creek, and great trouble was experienced in getting it outagain. Messrs Hardy Bros, kindly lent some of their dranght horses,, and with their assistance, got it oui of its perilous position, ' 1 had quito forgotten to mention who was belle of tho Ball, but tho honour and glory certainly Kcu between two, However, as I still have a little wool left, I will not say who was belle.
