A TOWNHALL IN FOUR YEARS WITHOUT BORROWING (?)
Sir,—l would suggest tbo following scheme in relation to the Town Hall question, which is agi'ating the minds of the community and which, I think, will commend itself to thinking and business minds. We have now £SOO set aside as a nucleus for a Town Hall fund. This amount should be subsidised for four yeavs by £4OO, which at the ending of that time, would amount to about £2,330 if invested at 5 per cent. This, I think, would bo much better than
invoking Parliamentaiy and other , expensive proceedings. If the bor--m rowing candidates are elected, it will * then take some two or three years before tho hall is built and some fifteen years before it is free from debt. Now, I contend waiting an extra year or year and a half is decidedly preferable—especially when by bo 4 iog the concern will be handed
over to the Borough Council froo of debt. It will then prove a source of revenue to tho Borough. With reference to the £4OO yearly to bo set asido, this can well be done without n stinting present and future educational requirements, in view of tho ' a incroaso of tho Trustrovonuo. lam - 1 etc., W. Praoxbld.
