At the Magistrate's Court to-day Mr Pownajl drew attention to the laxity of banks in giving out cheques lo all and sundry, 11 made the mailer of tracing a forgery very difficult. On the same day two cheques appear to have been given out to a man, giving the namo of Carpenter, who had filled them up and cashed them, one being cashed by Mr Kiddle at tho Taucrn, the other, the one now in question at Blairlogie junction. Both cheques wero tilled in with the same handwriting.

Accused challenged the police to prove that bo had been one day in goal for ten years and the Gazettes wero produced giving accused a very black record, The Bench imposed a fine of 20s, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment.
