FRUIT AS A FOOD.
Fruit is a food, indeed it is more than a food for it is also a medicine fioui its specially nutritious and
wholesome qualities. Were this truth realised our fruit crops would be larger and our national prosperity greater. Mr Mayo, the Government fruit expert is now in Masterton trying to show sottlers how to cheaply produce considerable crops of fruit by cultivating sorts specially suited to the climate and soil, and by growing trees in a rational and propcrmamicr. With a small orchard intelligently cultivated aud a trout stream close :.t hand a settler might live healthily, wisely and well in Masterton, on a very small income. We have had a talk with Mr Mayo and we find that he is an advocate of the practical philosophy we are preaching.
