It is sad to record that Tin; a meeting of some Uxlmi'i.ovki) sixty unemployed men Mkf.tisc was held in Al'asterfon to-day. It is also sad that the only outcome of such a gathering is an appeal to the Government. Under ordinary circumstances we should, ourselves, have appealed to private employers of labour to help these nion,buf private employers have been harrassed and worried in Jlicir businesses in many ways by Slaleinterfcrence.andwcfeelfhatwe should only mislead tho unemployed by appealing to them. The feeling amongst employers is bitter—not bitter against the working-man, but against the Government which compelled them to make sacrifices in his interests. In spite of this we feel sure that many in this community will, as far as they maybe able, help the unemployed if the Government fails (o relieve (heir needs.
