GREYTOWN NEWS.
From Our Own Correspondent. „ Tuesday. Mr F. Humphries, who waß the successful contractor for the erection of Mr F. H. Wood's auction rooms, is also the successful tenderer for : tho erection of Mr J. R, Hebley's new shop and dwelling. Quite a number of hands are engaged on the work, which is progressing very satisfactorily. Mr R, A, Wakelin has almost completed Mr T, 0. Haycock's fino new residence in Vogel Street. It is a pity there are not more buildings to be erected in thii town.
The congregation of St. Luke's Church are making the usual preparations to welcome the Bishop of ff ellington. They anticipate a very pleasant time.
The Mutual Improvement Society met last night, when tho Rev. S. J. Gibson delivered his lecture, tho subject being" The Biblo." An exciting but most extraordinary bolt occurred yesterday afternoon, Mr W. A. Eowso's horse attached to a trap, was standing in the yard, when suddenly it became frightened and made off. It went clean through tho gateway which was closed at the time, straight across Main Street, through Mr S. llaigh's front gateway (which fortunately was open), down the yard, jußt grazing a heavy i cart which happened to bo in tho way, through another gato-way which was half open, then on towards East-street. Tho horse, in taking tho leap to got on to the street, was brought low, but not before the fenco irsts smasheil down. The horse was soon extricated, and strange to say tho only damage done to tho trap was the bonding of one of tho steps. Had there been any children playing in the yard there would probably have been a serious accident.
