A Wellington Plagiarist.
TiiMiE is a writer c in the New Zealand C Mail who calls him- [ self " Scrutator " unci who occasion- , ally dishes up last century anecdotes i to show that he possesses original ; wit. In his last week's efforts ho , lakes one belonging to the reign of s Queen Anne and relates it as if it t happened yesterday. This is harmless enough, but he is apparently i allowed by the company he serves to 1 lire olf Ministerial crackers, and lias ' devoted :i portion of his column to Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., whom he I represents as embucd with block- ' , headed bitterness, old-time scllisli- ; ness and stagnation, as a " petty- ' spirited Wairarapa squatter politician." It is not necessary in this district to defend Jlr Buchanan , from attacks of this nature, but it docs seem a pity that " Scrutator " should not keep to his special rob' in ■ which he shines and devote his [ entire attention to reproducing eighteenth century anecdotes in a " modern dress.
