MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MKKTING.

The monthly meeting of the Masterton School Committee was held last evening. Present—Messrs G. Feist (Chairman), Hornblow, Easthopc, Wagg, Praguell, lliyc, and Daniel], MIXUTKS. Tho minutes of the last meeting wore read and confirmed. treasukkk's kbi-okt, The Treasurer reported a credit balance of 19s, with £22 capitation due to the School funds, SCHOOL. Miss Keeling reported that the attendance for tho past two weeks had been exceptionally good, 99 scholars out of 10't on the roll, being present on one occasion, the average for the month being 87. A few loads ofgravol are required for the path, and the report also recommended that some trees and shrubs should be planted this season.

The Chairman was authorised to procure gravel, as asked for, for both schools. The Chairman and Mr Easthope wore appointed a sub-Committee to procure shrubs and trees for the Infant School grounds, with power to act, maix school, Tho head teacher reported an average attendance of 511 scholars, with 608 on the roll. Although 'this attendance is fairly high it is not as satisfactory as it might be. There are still large numbers of children kept away with insufficient reason. Some of the excuses given are very discomaging to the teachers. The average attendance in the infant room is very satisfactory, 122 having been maintained, and good work consequently done. Gravel was required and gorse seedlings were becoming a nuisance. It to decided that the Chairman arrange for the grubbing up of the gorse seedlings, and the report was adopted, ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—W. 0. Cargill £1 lis6d;R.T.Holmes£sl7s 7d. GENERAL. Mr Easthope reported having, as visiting member, had a leak in the roof repaired and windows mended at the Main School, Mr Daniell thought the Committee should consider the advisability of asphalting round the school doors.
