DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.
Another of llnatorton'a early settlors passed away yesterday in ritthe person of Mrs Henry Jones, of ■Curipuni, who was seized with a paralytic stroko and nover rocovered. Tho shook came as a severe ono to the deceased's family, as on tho day previous she had been exceptionally bright and well, and lior sudden end was apparently quite unlookod for, although the infirmities of old age naturally have, during the past few years, caused somo trouble. The late Mrs Jones came to the Colony in tho ship London, lauding in Wellington on May Ist, 1842, and after rosidiug there some time, accompanied her husband to Masterton in 1856, and may bo looked upon as one of its earliest settlers. The deceased was very highly esteemed hy all who knew her, for her many kindly acts and quiet good(lness. She leaves an aged partner (Mr Henry Jones, senr.), and four sons-Mr James Jones, of Eketa«ma; Mr John Jones, of Matarawa; rd Messrs Henry and Edward Jones, «i Masterton—and three daughters —Mrs Collett, of Invercargill, (just now on a visit to Masterton); Mrs Deadman, of Hastwell; and Mrs Shute, of Mangatainoka-to lament their loss. The late Mrs Jones wns a staunch adherent of the llastcrton Wesleyan Church and tho .Rev. J. Dukes has arranged to preach a memorial sermon in connection with her decease on Sunday evening next, exchanging with the Rev. S H. D, Poryman who is planned to occupy the pulpit at Masterton on the above date. The funeral takes place on Thursday next at 2 p.m.
