The Trades Hall Council has passed a resolution strongly condemning the Tariff Board proposals as likely to destroy important industries which have grown up under protection, and throw thousands of workers out of employment and render a large amount of expended capital unproductive.

Newcastle, May 14, Several returned "New Australians" have reached here in an entirely destitute condition. Funds are being raised to send them to their homes. They confirm the statements that the settlement is in a very bad state, and the settlers arc suffering great hardships, they complain that they could not get any refund of the money paid to the Association, to assist them in their return.
