THE NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS.
Hectical May 10, U a.m.
Sydney, May 10. The Income Tax proposed by Mr Reid is to bo sixpence in the £, and is expected to realise £IOB,OOO, In closing his speech last night, Mr Reid referred to the question of Federation, and said he hoped, after the disposal of tho measures raised by the financial Statement, to invite Parliament to take a practical step towards Federation. There could be no Federation until the [compact was sealed in a spirit of brotherhood, and instead therefore of offering blow for bloir and bordor duty for border duty, he would offor his Australian brethren free use of all our borders.
The Houso has adjourned till Wednesday next. The members of the Freetrade Party consider the statement the best ever delivered in the House. Sir G. Dibbs thinks it is an absolute failure. Sir H. Parkcs says that when calmly and dispassionately read it causes disappointment by reason of its mistaken assertions, the serious omission of several important questions and its general defectiveness as an exposition of the Colony's finances.
