A PECULIAR CASE.
By Tclegraph.—Prcss Association. 'Nawee, May 7, A Napier woman has beon arrested in Sydney under peculiar circumstances.
Her husband, ft. ft Laws, is a mechanical engineer, well respected, He had saved some money, and was also secretary and treasurer of a Rechabite lodge, having about £3OO of its funds in band. He gave his wife deposit notes on both accounts to re-lodge the deposits in the Bank of New Zealand, Some time after she said ahe was going to nurse a .friend in Tomoaua, and went against the remonstrances of her husband, who was left with eight young children. As she did not return, he made inquiries and found she had never beon at Tomoana, but bad gone on to Wellington, and taken a steamer for Syduey, m route to England. The husband then instituted further enquiries, discovering that she had forged his name, withdrawing all his money and that of the Rechabites, and forged the deposit receipts with the name of the manager of the bank. She was arrested bofore she could start for England.
