SUDDEN RISE IN NEW ZEALAND FOUR PER CENTS.
Received, May 5, 5.30 p.m, London, May 3, The Now Zealand loan avowed £94 8s 9d. % One tender was for £IOO at par, Receieed, May 5,6.45 p.m. London, May 3. The New Zealand loan was not underwritten, the local banks not receiving any of the money. Financiers beliovo that the successful rising will result in re-establish-ing colonial credit, and congratulate the Hon. J. G. Ward on the succoss of the loan.
I'lic Times asserts that syndicates have induced tho public to largely apply for Colonial stocks. Received Mat/6,1.10 a.m. London, May 4 The Financial Times declares that tho success of the New Zealand loan is due to tho well-grounded belief that the finances of New Zealand are improving. The ZYmes states that some good judges consider the financial position of the Colony does not justify a premium of ii per cent. Mr Ward bolieves it that tho Anslraliau colonics shflp issue any future loans at 3 per cent and is arranging to convert all New Zealand stocks into 3 per cents as near as possible,
Mr Ward will initiate the operation boforo returning to Wellington, though the process will be extended gradually as the prices of stock justify it, and will result in a very ,• large saving, \{ Leading financiers assure .Mr Ward that the convorsion Bcheme will be well received, the market being convenient for both dealers and iuvostors, and that it is advisable thatthe Australian Government should take similar action, though one federal stock would be the best of all. Mr Ward thinks long dated 3 per cents, are likely to induce the conversion, which will be entirely voluntary. Scceiwl May 6, itO a.m. London, May i. A singular discovery was rcccnW' mado at the General Post Office, Dublin, where one of the clerks found a human :hngcr amongst the newspapers. It had the appearance of being a second finger. Inqmrics were inada, but the way in which it got into the offico could not be traced.
