MASTERTON AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Masterton Amateur Operatic Society was held in St. Matthew's Schoolroom, last evenmg.about forty members being present. MrW.H. Beelhain, President of the Society, occupied the chair, and in his opening remarks referred in laudatory teams to the excellent production of the "Sorcerer" last year, and hoped the forthcoming season would be marked with the same measure of success, I

.. The Secretary (Mr R. A. Davys) read the report and balance sheet, which were unanimously adopted. Several newmembers wereolected, including some who will prove a valuable acquisition to the Society. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year [-President: Mr W. H. Beethnm; Vice-Presi-, dents: Dr. W. H. Hosking, Dr. W. Butement, Rev, J. McKennn, Messrs W. Lowes, M. C'asolberg, and W. G. Beard; Committee of Management: Dr. A, Douglas, Messrs D. R, Robinson, W. Sellar, W. Dougall, W. Simms, Mcsdames Tabuteau,Simms, Robinson, Boddington and Miss Caselborg.

Mi' Beetharn, in acknowledging the position of 'President, said he felt it an honor to belong to such a Society, which had given such pleasure to music-lovers in the past, and he hoped all officers and members would attend to their duties and rehenrsals,and make the Society a thorough credit to the district,

It was resolved that Tuesday be he night of meeting, and all relearsals take place in St, Matthews' Schoolroom,

Mr Simms spoke of the amount of work done by the retiring secretary (Mr Davys) and said tho Society would greatly miss his valuable services, He felt sure every member of the Society would wish him success in his new sphere of labor.

Mr Davys briefly responded, and thanked Mr Simms for the kind words said about him. Ho had always done his best for the good of the Society, and hoped they would progress as thoy certainly deserved, Ho was extremely sorry to Ibavo Masterton, and particularly now that the Sqciety was starting another, season, A yote of thanks to the Chairman I concluded the meeting.
