MAURICHEVILLE ROAD BOARD.
ORDINARY MEETING.
The ordinary meeting of tho Maurieovillo Road Board was hold on Saturday, the 27th April. Present Messrs (J. fforsborg (Chairman), J.P.Hecklor.C.TaiCandP. Gleesou. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and correspondence outward. A letter was received from Mr J, Toungson requesting tho Board to re-deck the bridges on Youngson's Koad and offering to do the work for £2—lt was resolved that tho quantity of timber be ascertained and Mr Youngson's offer accepted. A petition was received from Messrs Piatt, Cooper, Abbott, and J. and P. Conigan requesting that a bridge may bo substituted for big culvert on Mr J, B. Anderson's contract, as the recent heavy rains have shown that tho culvert will be quite inadequato to carry off the storm water.—lt was decided to refer (lie petition to tbo Engineer with the Board's recommendation.
A communication from the County Clerk, desiring tho Board to bear part of tho cost of preparing plans of special rating districts, was held over for farther consideration.
Mr P. Sinclair, Government Inspector, wrote complaining of the dangerous state of the Mangamahoe road, more especially where some of tho old bridges have been burned, and in one case a couple of planks have been substituted, the result being that one horse lias been killed, his own injured, and several others had narrow escapes. Mr W. Husband also wrote, drawing attention to the unsafe state of this road.—At the suggestion of tho Engineer, notices have been served to the contractors working on this road, to keep it open and safe foi passing traffic. Messrs McLiicblan, Welch, and Bale, interviewed the Board with reference to the widening and making lit for dray traffic, of the lower end of Mount Bruce Road, leading down to the Huaniahunga river.—lt was pointed out that the part of the road which it is desired should be widened, is situated in the Masterton district, but if the settlers interested, can get the Masterton Hoard to undertake tho work, then the Mauricevillo Board, recognising that the proposed improvements to the lower end of the road, when Directed, will prove a mutual advantage to both disti'icts, will subsidise the work by a sum of say £25, Mr Tail was authorised to get the remains of Dorset's bridge removed to a place of safety; Mr Hecklor to see that the same is done with the wreck of Salter's bridge. The following tenders were received for clearing slips on the Mangamahoe road:—W, McGruddy, £6O; Dixon and Lawson, £45; 0, A. Mason, (accepted) £4l; W. 11. Fletcher, £6!); Jaeobsen and Drodersen, £95; P, Lyons, £6l, Accounts, amounting to £4ollßs Id, were passed for payment. At the conclusion of the meeting, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman, for his services during his term of office.
