I _ London, April 28. | Tho Nicaraguans arc closing Port Corinto to prevent the British collecting the customs duties. This action causes some anxiety in the I United States lest the British should retaliate by seizing San Juan, which is one of the termini of the proposed canal.
Received April 2S, 5m p.m. Nkw YoiiK,Agril27. Martial law has been proclaimed in Nicaragua, and tho telegraph wires are being cut. Rewired April, 29, I a.m. Nkw Yoiik, April 28. Four hundred marines from the ! British warship Koyal Arthur, with two machine guns, were landed in twenty-two boats, and have occupied Corinto. Troops seized the Customhouse and other public buildings, over which the British flag was then hoisted.
The local garrison withdrew on the approach of tho British, and crossed the lagoon separating the town from the mainland. They are now in a strongly cntrenchod position,
The warships are ready to bore bard if tho entrenched troops interfore with the marines, Most of the residents of (Jorinto have retired to San Juan.
