CHINA AND JAPAN.
London, April 25. The Great Powers have, it issaid, allowed tho cession of Formosa to Japan, and have agreed to the payment of the indemnity and the opening of certain Chinese ports to foreign trade. Itessia,suspecting that Great Britain has obtained secret concessions, has forwarded to the Japanese Government a Note as to the conditions in the treaty of peace to which she will not give her sanction. The Daily News states that Great Britain shares the Japanese commercial privileges. Received, April 27, 10.20 a.m.
London, April 26. The correspondent of the Standard asserts that there is a conviction in Berlin that the Japanese will prefer to fight Russia, rather thanrenounce the annexation of certain Chinese territory which she has captured, Many German newspapers it is said disapprove of supporting Russia in her opposition to some of tho conditions of the Peace,
i Several Parisian papers, too, protest against Franco being dragged at the heels of Russia.
St. Petersburg, April 26. The Norm Vrmya states that the negotiations botween Russia and Japan have taken a favorable turn, anil it is expected the matters in dispute will soon be settled. Shanghai, April 26. Pekin is in an excited state, and many high Chinese officials are urging the Emperor to refuse to ratify the peace treaty.
