The Carterton and Greytown first teams meet for a friendly match on Saturday next. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union takes placo at Carterton on Wednesday evening next,
The Oriental Football Club have been fortunate enough to acquire a splended football ground in Wrlgley's Estate for their use this season. It is fronting Lincoln Road, and being about mid-way between the town and Railway station, is in a good position, With a little cave and trouble the ground could be made one of the very best in the Wairarapa. The Eketahuna Football Club have started an Accident and Insurance Company on their own account. Cheers were given for the officer of the N.Z.R.U., when the Canterbury team left Wellington left week. Notwithstanding the rough weather overjfching possible was dono for the comfort and convenience of the visitors by Mr E. D. Hoben and bis fellow enthusiasts,
About fifty players of various Clubs turned up for practice on the Park Oral on Saturday but the game was not marked with any individual brilliancy. Sides were cbosen by the captains of the Masterton and Star Clubs, the former's winning by one try to nil. The resolutioa that the two senior clubs be allotted the Oval and To Ore Ore grounds for practice on alternate Saturdays is a good one, and I hope to see members of both clubs turn up in force with their respective teams. At a mixed practice such as the one on Saturday, new members havo not an opportunity of being tried in desired places in the field, and more than fifteen on either side isjnot condusive to good play. A rule that only members of Clubs should be allowed to play on the allotted grounds should also be strictly enforced.
A match was played on Saturday last between the newly-formed Clubs of the Te Whiti and Parkville, resulting in a win for the latter after a. very hard-fought game. ; The Oriental Club open their season on Thursday by pitting the first fifteon against all comers on the Lincoln-road ground, There is at last some likelihood of Otago throwing off their fit of jealousy and joining the Now Zealand Union, Such an amalgamation should be hailed with pleasure by all true lovers of the game. This will make the strength of tho colonial representatives second tonono in the world, and a team to be sent to the Old Country will now be brought und nsideratien,
