By this route a much better bottom will be obtained, and the rocky bottom in the Ticinity of Lyall Bay, the outlet of tho presont cables, will be avoided. Tho new cable is to be a five core one, and when it is laid ihe interruption of tho telegraphic communication between the two Islands will be almost an impossibility. This is the first time the Terra- i nora has been engaged in the work of laying a new cable, but given line weather the operations are expected to proceed without a hitch.
