THE WAIPOU A ENCROACHMENT.

«■ PROPOSED RIVER BOARD. A meeting of the proposed River | Board Committee was held last evening at the Borough Council Chambers, Mr W. Cullen in tho chair, Messrs Daniell, Easthope, ITornblow, Murray and Bone also being present. On the motion of the Chairman Messrs Gapper, Mcintosh, Elliott, Bulpitt and Byford wcro added to the Committee. The Town Clerk (Mr R. Br OW n) attended by request, and gave information with regard to Acts bearing on River Conservation. Mr W. R. Bono was elected Secretary. Mr Daniell gave an estimate of the work of protection, at from £ls to £25 per cbain. Mr W. Cullcu suggested tliat the area for rating be from the Railway Bridge down Hall and Chnrcbstreets, and Lincoln and Colombo roads, to the Waipoua Elver. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Heese, of Pahiatua, asking for information re protective i works carried out in .Canterbury, : and also to the Colonial Secretary, i asking whether it is essential that ' both sides of the river be taken into ! tho proposed district. ' Tho Committee then adjourned.

Mawlcy kindly supplies us : with the following particulars, of the ; rainfall for Ditton,during the late storm: -Registered on morning of 13th, 'fid ' inches; 14th, 2*43 inches; 15th, 6*54 ' inches; 16th, 3'19 inches; total for 4 ' days, 11*70 inches This exceeds the ' total rainfall for any proyious month. '
