Horses for the Home Market.
< _ ATRIAL SHIPMENT PROBABLE. Several visitors from the Mother Country, who are qualified to speak with authority, have been much struck by, and have greatly admired the excellence of the Clydesdale horses, and the heayy draught stock generally they have seen in their journeyings through the country districts, 'l'ho market value in London, of horses of this sort, ranges from £GO to £BO, while here tlicy only bring about half the price. In fact, a recent shipment from Canterbury, only brought aboutonoquarter these prices at auction in Wellington. There is, therefore, a considerable margin of profit open for shippers to realize, aud evidently a good trade may he done by breeders of Clydesdale stock if they are enterprising enough to test the Home market. The Government are so impressed by the prospects of developing a lucrative industry in this direction that with a view of putting it to a practical trial they are prepared to offer inducomonts for a shipment to England. It will probably be made in June next, says tho New Zealand Times, cither by the lonic or tlio Doric, as theso are considered to bo the most suitable vessels for the purpose.
