FURTHER PARTICULARS.
Mr H. Cole, of Masterlon, made an effort to get through to Eketahuca with a coach yesterday, but owing to tho heavy slips he was forced to turn back at Mauriceville.
Many settlers are considerable losers by the late floods. Mr J. McGregor, of Lower Mnnaia, had several stud sheep drowned, and a crop of potatoes badly damaged. Mr R. J. Baker lost wool valued at £2O. Several settlers at the Te Ore O/o sottlement have had all their fencing swept away, amongst the principal losers being Messrs Gr, Smith, Brown and Miss Armstrong. Mr Wagland rode through from Eketahuna to Masterton yesterday, and reports a very rough journey. Several times he had to leave the road altogether to pass slips. The late flood has done considerable damage in the Pahiatua county. The Mangatainoka river flooded the town of Pahiatua. in the main street to a depth of from eight inches to three feet, many shops and dwellings being flooded. In the Manawatu District (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Palmerston North, Tuesday. Railway communication between here and Wellington is interrupted, the line being under water for about a mile. All railway and telegraph communication is interrupted between Palinerston and Woodville. Two spans of the Gorge road bridge, near Ashurst, lmvo bceii washed taking with them the telegraph wires. It is not expected that communication with Napier will be restored for about a fortnight, the line through the Gorge being covered with numerous slips. The Marlborough, Wellington, and Napier Volunteers are stranded here, being unable to get any further. The approaches to Fitzherbert Bridge over the Manawatu River, are washed away, also several bridges and approaches in tte Fitzherbert district, The country is flooded for miles, One contractor reports losing eight horses and his plant. Several residents in town and country had to leave their houses to escape the water. The floods are now going down, Most of the settlers removed their stock to places of safety. The Rangitikei District, Oiiingaiti, Tuesday. The Makohine Bridge approaches are undermined, and traffic has been stopped for 24 hours. No Damage in Hawk's Bay. Napier, Tuesday. Though a good deal of rain has fallen on the coast, there has not been an abnormal fall inland, and no Hawke's Bay rivers are in flood. Tho people of the bush districts aro the greatest sufferers.
