BRITISH POLITICS.
(Received April 9,6.30 p.m). London, April 9. The Unionist Press considers the Local Veto Bill a ridiculous measure and condemns the exemption of Ireland as a bribe to secure the votes of the Irish members.
Mr Russell intends to move the inclusion of Ireland. The Bill was read a first' time without a division, Lord Herscbell's Land Trausfer Bill lias passed its third reading in the Houso of Lords. Lord Herschell declared tbat the laud registration had worked admirably in the colonies.
Sir W. Harcourt has introduced a Local Voto Bill almost identical with the Bill of 1893. He said it would be unwise at present to enforco universal Sunday closing, and it was impossible to impose it ig London. Towns to which such restnl tions applied would have to be left to tho decision of local option. It is rumored that Lord Kensington has been offered the succession to Lord Kintore.
