The following team will represent ■the Excelsiors in their match with Wellington Excelsiors on Easter Monday :—E. Harland (capt.), H. Wrigley, W. Mason, B. Bagge, W. Johnston, A. Nicol, A. Bennett, J. Wickens, T. Fitzsimmons, L. Williams, T, Wrigley. Emergencies: J. Fleming and F. Green. The Wellington team will be roprosonted as follow 3 -.—Banks <2), Burns, Buck, Garswell, Deaville, Gonagle, Phelps, Wittams, Kutherford, Illingsworth, On Easter Monday cricket matches will bo played in Masterton between the local Excelsiors and the Wellington Excelsiors, and a scratch Masterton team against tho Wellington Stars. The following team will represont Waii-arapa in the return match against the Bush Association, to be played on the Greytown Reserve on Saturday next:—Broad, Booth, Atfeechy, Baillio, Cotterill, Hawke, Jndd, Knowles, Perry, Rowse, and E, Udy, Emergencies, D'Arcy, - (batting), J. Judd (bowling). Although Masterton are to be congratulated upon their decisive fj win against Mntarawa on Saturday, it is a pity that more spirit had not been put into tho gamo at the commencement of tho season, as competent critics say that, had tho local knights of the willow placed a little more contidence in their powers ' in tho, first matches, and players rolled up whon called upon, tho result of the championship would have been different. A few more cricketers of tho same calibre as| Whatman, Broad, Moore, and one or two others, are necessary, before Masterton will be represented as it should be. Men who will play on their own ground, and not fulfill outrffcdo engagements, cannot be an to any Club. A peculiar and amusing incident occurred on Saturday at Rangiora, in a match between Ashley County and St. Albans. Tho wicket was in a very sloppy state, and one of the County batsmen in makiug a huge hitat thebp.ll t struck the turf instead and sent a patch of mud flying over mid-oii's hoad. That fieldsman thought it was the ball and made a frantic effort to catch it; whilst the batsman at the opposite crease was likewise deceived and started to run, going almost to the other end before he was enlightened on the subject, and he only got back again with great difficulty amidst roars of laughter. Communications (says a Sydney telegram to tho ' Argus') have been passiug between prominentcrtcketers which show that the next Australian Eleven for England is likely to be selected from the following:—G, Giifen, Lyons, Darling, A. H. Jarvis, Hill, Eady, Trott (2), Bruce, 'Trumble, Graham, Iredale, Gregory, tooniian, and Turner. It is thought Improbable, however, that Turner and Brace will be able to leave. Masterton o Mamwa

The last Association match of the season was played between the above teams at Carterton on Saturday last, resulting in a win for Masterton by 72 runs on the first innings. Masterton went first to the wickets, and weie not disposed of until 100 runs were registered. Broad playing a grand innings for 38 not out. He went in second wicket down, and completely mastered the bowling, giving the field of fifteen men a remarkably lively time of it. Matarawa made a very poor stand against the bowling of Darrooh and Broad, the former especially being in splendid form. His average of nine wickets for 10 runs speaks for

itself. Broad took four wickets for Mp runs, A. Knowles was the highest 6corer with eight runs, no less than nine players retiring without even adding a single run to the total.
