Wv; are gratißetl with the result of flic preliminary mcotinp of the projected Boiling Down Company, held on Saturday. The presence of Mr Keith in the chair, and the relegation of the Articles of Association to a committee, were guarantees that the concern was being started on business lines, and that it is likely to command public confidence. The numerous attendance of settlers was also another prognostication of success. There is every prospect of tallow being remunerative, because the young sheep of the district leave it for export, and there is consequently an accumulation of old sheep which must be thinned down, If the proposed Company goes in for fellmongory and manure, it will have to compete with larger mannfacteries in the neighbourhood of Wellington, and without it is managed to the very best advantage it will hardly be as successful with these industries as with tallow-making. Probably it will, in the first instance, make tallow its chief business, and if it succeeds with this, it may with prudence extend the margin of its proposed capital and its field of operations. We might also call the attention of its promoters to the expediency of erecting Cold Chambers in this town, for the reception of butter, rabbits, poultry, and fruit. This would develop a now industry for the farmers of the neighbourhood. Cold storage, in inland towns, is beginning to be recognised as a requirement which must sooner or later be provided. Of course, if the promoters of the present Company see that it would be advantageous to embrace an enterprise of this description in their prospectus, they would have to draft a somewhat larger scheme, than that which has been hitherto suggested.
