Wf, lire glad to learn from Mr W. \Y, McCardlo that the Ballance Dairy Factory is in such a healthy position. The figures, however, given in our article, "A Tarpaulin Muster," were obtained from a reliable source, and wo were inclined to think they fairly represented the average expenses, or the average cost of producing a pound of butter. Some factories may be working at a smaller outlay, if so they have nothing to fear from tho depressedbuttcr market. In the Waikato the milk suppliers have had to submit to a reduction, and the same prospect is in store for the milk suppliers in the Taranaki district. We quite agree with Mr McOaidle that the paring.down should not fall entirely upon the farmers, but we fail to see how they are to escape it. Freight, insurance and commission take a good deal of killing, and an equitable adjustment of tho losses will never bo secured until the farmers learn to appreciate th'-ir position and take concerted action, We are really pleased to be informed of the excellent work done at the Ballance factory, and shall be glad to have a copy of the next balance sbeot verifying the figures given by MrMcCardle.
