MASTERTON LICENSING DISTRICT.
ADJOURNED MEETING. JMAKAIIi HOTEL, The adjourned meeting of the Mastorton Licensing Committee was Present: Messrs T Hutchison, S.M., (chairman), A. Walker, A. Stewart, J. Dawson, J, Heesey, and Chamberlain. The Deputy Official Assignee (Mr W. B. Chennells) applied for a license for the Maknkahi Hotel, and for a transfer of tho same to Matthew Edward Raines, Mrßunny appeared for tho D.O.A. .and MrTosswill for Mr Eaines. The Chairman said his individual opinion was that the requirements of theActhadnotbeen complied with. The notice should have been given twenty-onedaysbefore the Quarterly Meeting, which commenced on the 9th day of March. Counsel submitted that the notice was in form as this was an adjournment of the Quarterly Meeting,which was not concluded. The Chairman said there w.is no doubt in his mind that the occupant had been selling liquor contrary to the Act and without a license. Mr Daniell said he considered the house was not wanted. Mr Walker said that tlie house was necessary, if well conducted. Mr Stewart, in reply to Mr Daniell, said that for himself he could not say of his own knowledge, that the house was required, but the public seemed to want it. The license was granted, the Chairman and : Mr. Daniell dissent[ing. The Committee then rose,
