WAIRARAPA AMATEUR ATHLETIC SPORTS.
[Anticipations By the Ped,] p The fifth programme of the Sports of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Society, which take place on the Park Ovalto-moiTow.isquiteuptotheusnal standard, and should tho promoters be fortunate enough to have a fine day, tho gathering will undoubtedly be the most successful yet held under its auspices. Judging by the great interest taken in the affair, and by the appearance of the Park every evoning during the past month, the lacing to-morrow will bo exceptionally good, and the times will not be the slowest on record,. Up till lust week, the pedestrians, training on tho Park were, with few exceptions, not seen in their true form, but since the handicaps have been published, excellent trials all round have'been made, and'if I am not very much mistaken, several of the events to-morrow will be thorough surprises. Acceptances being made on the ground, I am uot in a position to know the probable starters for eacht event, but the following "anticipi' tions," carefully judged by past penu formances and present form, shou® supply the placed the men>■ Maiden Race—lst heat, Richards, 2nd heat and final, Bagge, High Jump.—Broad. 100 yds Handicap, Ist heat, 2nd heat, McGovern, 3rd heat, Scale. Final, Bagge or McGoyern, Maiden Bicycle Race.--Androw» or Joyce. 220 yds Handicap.—McGovern, 120 yds Hurdles.—Watson. 250 yds Championship,—l{, B. Owen or Jeffries, Three Mile Bicycle.—Hont. Half-Mile Handicap.—Butement, Anketell or Dorset, 440 yds Hurdles. Wation or Thompson. One Mile Handiiap.—Dorset or Butement. 5 Mile Bicycle.—Herbert.
The 440 yds Bracelet Handicap is certainly the most interesting race of the day, and will be a Bplendidly contested one. Twenty-one aspirants havo nominated, and most of tluflft will accept, _ In my opinion at leal eight ot nine have a good ohance, especially Scale, McG'overn, and Butement, the two former for preI ference, Jeffries, I consider, is handicapped. out of it, but if the Owens are in any form, one or the other may upset my calculations, ; However, all things considered, I shall look to McGoyern to breast the taper first, and take possession of 'the valued trophy at this autuipq pjeotr infr '
