CORRESPONDENCE.

THE CHURCH! [to the editor.] Sir,—The "jottings" of your Wellington correspondent are well worth reading and display a shrewd knowledge generally of life. His " Church" acquaintance seems, however, rather limited. It is not true of Church lifo in Wellington all round that three-fourths of tho congregation are women, and that in the Sunday Schools there are ten female teachers to every male. In quite a number of congregations the workers are about equal in number as regards sex,and the congregations are often about tho same, Your correspondent is writing describing the condition of a section of the Church, viz., the Anglican section, but the description of a part is not the description of tho whole. It is be hoped tho Apostolic graces of ! service and sacrifice are to be found morcgenerally throughout f/tcChurch than he finds in the part he is acquainted with. The Anglican communion is part of the Church, but cannot arrogate to itself tbetitlc'T/w Church." Archdeacon Sinclair, preaching some time ago in St, Paul's Cathedral rebuked severely such arrogance and called attention !to the fact that the total number throughout the world of those in communion with tho Church of England did not. number more than 23,000,000, while the Reformed Churches (non-Episcopal) number 93,000,000, Let your correspondent use the designating adjective "Anglican" or some such word when describing a part of the Church. I am, etc., Ldther.
