GREYTOWN VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE SPORTS.

(From Oar Own Correspondent), The above Sports was held on the Recreation Reserve yesterday, The ■weather was exceptionally fine, giving lovers of out-door sport an oppor*A tunity of being present. ThisW opportunity was taken advantage of by large numbers from Masterton, Carterton, and tho other townships in the district, and about mid-day there was a large representative gathering present, About 11 a.m. the procession, consisting of the various brigades, headed, by the Brigade Band, marched from the Post Office to the grounds, The total amount realised in gate money, etc., amounted to about £3O. Everything passed off very satisfactorily, and during the whole day the public were most orderly, One special feature was the total absence of any rowdyism or drunkenness, and the Brigade is to be highly congratulated for the wise courso adopted in prohibi ting the sale of intoxicants. The credit; of prohibiting the sale of intoxicant!) on the Reserve is reaM due to M:c Sam Haigh, who is * member of the Reserve Trust, and some montJis back a motion of his was carried', to that effect. A refreshment booth, under thjw management of the Brigade, viftt well patronised during the day. SF also was a, fruit stall run by Mr Fred Muir. | The grand-stand was crowded wiiJi visitors, and proved a pleasant resiort for tho tired folk, and also liao! the effect of breaking the monotony usual at these gatherings, viz., that of so much moving about. The band rendered selections of music at intervals.

Tliero were two starting machines on the ground, one patented by Mr J. Lewis, the other by Mr 6. Humphries. He was ably assisted by Messrs S. Haigh, A. Gallon, and G. Lackland, I cannot help mentioning one matter that I hope the management will check at any future gathering, viz,, that of keeping back the crowd of spectators who will persistently congregate inside the courso while the events are being run. The Secretaig| (Mr J. K. Hornblow) deserves ® compliment of praise for his courteous manner to all, and for the way he carried out his arduous duties. Messrs Heage-ty, P. H. Wood, H, Morrison, J.
