LATEST PAHIATUA NEWS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent). Pauiatiu, Monday. At the adjourned meeting of the Pahialua County Council, on Saturday, the Committee appointed to deal with financial matters, reported that if all rates outstanding were paid, the Council could meet its liabilities with the overdraft up to the limit. They recommended tho discharge of all the surfacemen except one; tliat the engineer's and clerk's salaries be reduced; and that the assistanl engineer be dispensed with at the end of June, unless further loan work is to be proceeded with. A motion was carried, that the officers be asked to resign, and fresh applications, with rei duced salaries, be invited, the old officers to have first chance. The salaries were I fixed at £250 for the Engineer, and £2C3 for the Clerk. A meeting was held at Mangatainoka on Saturday night, Mr Bolton being in the Chair, re the Woodville-Aohanga road. It was decided to take immediate , action to prevent the votes lapsing. Messrs Hall and Hogg are to be requested to go to Welliugton at once, « i the matter.
