GREYTOWN NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Friday. Business in general still remains quiet down this wny. In spite of 11 hard times" the Insurance fiend may bo found hovering all over the district, Tho Borough wells are being deepened by the overseei. Water is plentiful and money scarce. The Native Land Court was adjourned for the Christmas holidays. the vacation has been extended since nothing further Ims developed. will gladly welcome achauge | weather. The whole district I is suffering front the effects of the dry season. A well-known business man in our town informed me the other day that I bad he known Greytotvu intended j choosing Saturday for the half-holi- j day, lie would never have started I business here. So much for the wisdom onr town possesses! Our local celestial storekeepers! have gone in for selling boots and] shoes in addition to fruit and grocer-j ies. Asking " John " the other day j lii's reason for this, his reply was: " Mr ho sellem fmit now—all right I sell 'em boots. Me makem wild.'' For ways that are cunning John cannot be beaten.

At the present time our footpaths arc in a very rough state. The time will come when they will be made smoother. Let's hope the time is not far distant when a portion of the footpaths will be asphalted. Ilr H. Robinson and family, of Carterton, intend taking np their residence in Greytown next month.
