TENUI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Wednesday. A series of narrow escapes from accidents attended the closooflast week. Two school-boys, mounted double-bank, bad a narrow escape from being thrown by their mount. The horse, an old racer, scenting Cashpoint Races not far off, thought it would have a preliminary gallop along the main road. The two youngsters stuck to their mount with the tenacity of monkeys, and screamed their loudest, as the horse galloped for home. Young Willie Owen, galloped after them, and succeeded in keeping at the runaway's side, cheering the boys, until it_ reached Watson's bridge, a good mile from tho school, where he fortunately pulled it up. A horse and trap belonging to the estate of the late Mr John Osborne, ran into a heavy wood-cart standing outside tho store, and turned completely over, the horse on its back, and the trap upside down in a ditch. Very little damage was done. Mr Harry Moore, storoman at tho W.F.C.A, store, was driving a vehicle and pair down Langdon's Hill to the Black Swamp, when the break would not act properly, and the horses galloped madly down the bill. Fortunately the driver kept his seat, and by great presenco of mind, kept tho horses .straight for the swamp, when they pulled up i amongst the flax bushes. _ On Sunday, Mr Belliss was driving a party of friends in his buggy . along the Castle Point Beach when i ayouug man, came galloping past on tho wrong side at a great rate, and frightened one of tho horses, , which made a clean bolt, breaking [ the traces, and scaring the passen- , gers. Tho man had not the courtesy . to pull up to see what damago bad , been done, and if he could rentier assistance, i The County Council have at last , commenced repairing the mud hole j near Geange's Corner, and Smith, ; the roadman, has made a capital job , of it. The metal, which has been , put on is of the hardest, and should t wear well. It is hoped all tho metal r is carted, and the repairs completed . without delay. It took three or four ! years to do what repairs have been i done, and it is hoped it will not take , tho same leugtb of time to finish it, ut The picnic to celebrato the open- . ing of tho Mungapakcha school, is to j bo held on Friday next at Munga- :. pakeha, The scholars of the Tenui .
