From our Christchureh exchanges it would appear that a doubt exists as to whether the opposition did not score a victory over Mr Reeves when he addressed his constituents. Amid considerable confusion the Chairman ruled in favour of confidence in the Minister of Labor, but the hostile element was admittedly very strong. Mr Reeves himself seems to have lost his nerve for at the critical moment he withdrew a plea of justification respecting the late Sergeant at Arms and threw all the blame on the shoulders of his colleagues. What his colleagues will think of his saving himself at their expense remains to he seen, but if by so doing the Ministry escaped public censure they will probably be mean enough to condone his recreancy.

The cheap excursion train to-morrow will be the means of taking to the city, besides scores of children who have never seen a large town, a number of adults who have not visited Wellington since Masterton was first formed—some for a period of over twenty years. From Manilla wo could take Manilla fibre to mix with flax and make ropes loeally for Australia, the East, and the Pacific, instead of, as at present, sending llax fibre to England and then rc-im-porliug the finished ropes.
