MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The regular fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. Present Crs. E. Feist (in the chair) Ilessey, Mutrie, Yates, Chamberlain and Hornblow. MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. APOLOGIES. Apologies were received from the Mayor and Crs. Hughes and Cullen, for absence from the meeting, Leave ot absence was granted ou the motion of the Chairman. I TYI'UOID. Dr Douglas reported two fresh cases of typhoid fever. KIKE INSPECTOR, C.H.Payne wrote resigning his position as Fire Inspector, being no longer Captain of the Volunteer Fire Brigade, The resignation was accepted with thanks to Mr Payne for past services. FAIR REST. A circular was received from the Crown Lands Ollice, with reference to a proposed Fair Rent Bill, and asking for certain information to facilitate tho drafting of the measure. The Clerk informed the Chairman that it would be impossible to supply the information. The letter was received, MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION. The Secretary of the Municipal Association wrote, enclosing a number of legal opinions on Municipal matters. A LITTLE LIST. A subscription list for raising a fund to put iron on the Fire Brigade Band Shed, was ordered to be laid on the table in a fortnight, as tho meeting was not a full one. REPORTS. Tho Works and Finance Committee's report was read and adopted. lIOAItDIXfi HOBSKS. Inspector Ingram reported on several boarding houses in tho Borough, the report generally being favorable, except as regards fire escapes sit certain establishments. Cr Hessey moved that licenses be granted subject to tho recommendations of tho Inspector being carried out. The motion was carried, VILLA STREET. Cr Hornblow asked whether tenders were to bo called for the formation of Villa Street, Cr Hessey said the Works Committee had decided to invito tenders in about a month, On tho motion of Cr Hessey tho Council tliou adjourned.
