(Received February 9,11 a.m.) Sydney, February 9. The Fruit Growers' Conference has concluded. Dr Cobb, pathologist of the Agricultural Department read an important paper on fruit pest* and their treatment, He estimated that the damage done yearly by theso pests in New South Wales amounted to a hundred thousand pounds. The discussion which took place on the paper showed that there was urgent necessity for dealing with thomatter thoroughly tilthout delay, and it was resolved to aßk the Minister to establish anentomo-i logical laboratory for studying thej treatment of pests. \9 The Greta miners declare that the action of the Delegate Board in declaring the strike off, was a cowardly desertion of unemployed men, Tho management of the mine offered to employ the old hands if they applied individually, but would not recognise them as a lodge, The terms offered by the management involved such a large rednction in rates, that the men rejected them, and decided toetandfirmm a',lodge 'and developments,'- •./:'.'.?-.
