[ United Press Association.] (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright), A COLD WINTER. 1 SEVERE WEATHER IN ENGLAND. GREAT STORMS ON THE ATLANTIC. (Received February 7, 9,50 p.m.) London, February 6. Intense cold is being experienced in England, and in parts of the Midlands the thermometer has dropped as low as six degrees below zero. (Received February 8, 9.45 a.m.) London, February 7.
A violent snow blizzard has swept over Scotland and the northern portion of England and Wales. Many trains are snowbound, and ice floes block the upper reaches of the Thames. The present winter is said to be the most severe experienced since : 1880. The French-American liner Cascoigne and tbe Cunard steamer Cephalonia are overdue and some anxiety is felt for tbeirsafety, owing to the Majestic reporting terrible storms in crossing the Atlantic, and various signs of disasters. The thermometer in London and suburbs has fallen between zero, Washington, February 7. Terrific cold weather is being experienced in the northern States, where the thermometer averages 25 degrees below zero, and 50 in the western States.
Lake Cliainplain is entirely frozen over.
