THE.PACIFIC MAIL SERVICE.
INLAND POSTAGE,
The Premier arrived by the Rotorua from Nelson yesterday morning. Ministers met in Cabinet during 1 the forenoon, and some rather important business was under consideration, The proposals made by the Post-master-General at the Postal Conference regarding the Pacific mail service, in the direction of the establishment of a four-weekly service to Vancouver alternately with the San Francisco service, were approved of, Certain proposals which have been submitted for completely changing the inland postage of the Colony were discussed and then postponed pending further investigation. An expenditure of £6,000 was authorised upon wharf extension at Port Chalmers, so that the direct stoamers may be able to berth alongside.
