The convict Wright, solicitor, who is now undergoing a sentence of 12 years penal servitude, will he a witness for the Crown in the action against the directors of the Liberator Building Society. The Gilchrist trustees have offered to provide half the cost of a travelling scholarship to enable colonial teachers from each colony in turn to spend a half-year in England for the purpose of studying secondary education. Each colony so nominating a teacher will be expected to pay the other half. Brennan, the inventor of the torpedo known by his name, has been appointed Torpedo Adviser to tho War Office and Admiralty. Dissensions between the followers of Healv and Dillon are increasing. The former are now excluded from the Parliamentary Committee of tho party. Angelo, Adelaide, states that a large smelting firm has adopted his process of smelting sulphide ores, and have arranged to erect works at Swansea. They will purchase for treatment there, Broken Hill sulphides which have hitherto been too expensive to work. Paris, February 6, France and Belguim have reaffirmed their pre-emptive right to the Congo.
