THE ENGLISHMEN IN AUSTRALIA. Sydney, February 2. Last night's heavy rain was followed by heavy showers this morning, necessitating the postponement of the start of to-day's game until after lunch. [liY DAMOCLES.] The Mnsterton eleven play the Carterton thirteen on the Park Oval on Saturday next, and a very intereating game should eventuate. When they last met, Carterton proved the winners by four or five runs. The other cup fixtures for Saturday next, are:—Matarawa t. Morrison's Bush, and Greytown second v. Featherston.
MASTERTON v. MORRISON'S BUSH. The championship match between the above Clubs was played at Mor-1 rison's Bush on Saturday, Masterton proving victorious by 54 runs. The visiting eleven batted first, and 96 runs were totted up before the last wicket fell Hansen showed splendid form for his 26, and sound cricket was also noticeablein Broad's 14, and Whatman's 12, Although the Bush had sixteen men, their fielding was extremely loose, no less than 21 extras being made against them. The home team made a very poor stand in batting, and only totalled 42 runs between tliem. Burch, with 18, was top score, none of the others gaining double figures.
