Some sensation was caused in Mastertun yesterday afternoon by the news getting abroad that a man named Thomas Ellis, at one lime cook at Messrs Becfchams' Brancejieth Station, had attempted suicide by cutting his throat in tbo Masterton Park, It appears that a party of young men were walking in the Park about 8 o'clock when a girl rushed up to them and told them that a man had just committed suicide. They immediately went in the direction indicated, and found Ellis staggering along in an almost holploss condition, with bis throat cut, and the blood straining down bis arms and body. One of the young nion at once ran oft' for medical assistance, another for the police, while the rest (MrT.Hudson being especially prominent), helped the mau to a scat, and as bo offered no resistance, bandaged up his neck with handkerchiefs.

Dr Douglas was soon iu attendance, and, on examination', found the I wounds were not of a very serious nature. Ellis was removed to the Police Station, aM lias since received every attention from Sergeant MoArdje, and although rather weak, is ill a fair way of recovery. Sergeant McArdle, this morning informed Mr Geo. Heron, J.P., that the man was too exhausted to appear before tbo Court, but he would apply for a remand to Wellington for medical treatment. His Worship granted the application, and the man will be taken down this afternoon.
